Malak Foundation Incorporated Joins the United Nations Global Compact

Malak Foundation Incorporated is pleased to announce that, as of 18 August 2026, we have been formally accepted as a participant of the United Nations Global Compact and added to the official UN Global Compact register of participants.

This important milestone follows Malak Foundation’s formal Letter of Commitment dated 29 May 2026, addressed to H.E. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Commitment Letter

In that letter, Malak Foundation confirmed its support for the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, while committing to advance these principles through our activities and communicate that commitment publicly to our stakeholders and the wider community.

A Global Commitment Aligned With Our Work

Participation in the UN Global Compact represents a natural progression of Malak Foundation’s work in Australia and internationally.

Our Letter of Commitment outlined how the Foundation’s programs and activities already contribute to the principles and broader Sustainable Development Goals through areas including humanitarian support, anti-racism initiatives, sustainable development, economic participation and accountable governance.

In particular, the letter highlighted Malak Foundation’s advocacy and assistance for displaced Sudanese people and those navigating visa and resettlement pathways, alongside the delivery of the Inclusive Voice anti-racism program in Victoria, Australia.

Our commitment also recognised the importance of sustainable development and economic opportunity, including support for women-led micro-enterprises in conflict-affected Sudan and initiatives designed to create employment and strengthen local economic participation.

The Foundation further affirmed its commitment to financial transparency, responsible governance and government grant accountability, consistent with the UN Global Compact’s anti-corruption principle.

What the UN Global Compact Means for Malak Foundation

The United Nations Global Compact brings together organisations committed to conducting their activities in accordance with universally recognised principles and contributing to sustainable development.

For Malak Foundation, becoming a participant is not simply an organisational milestone. It provides an international framework through which we can continue strengthening the way we approach humanitarian assistance, community development, partnerships and institutional accountability.

Our participation reinforces four areas that are central to the Foundation’s work:

Human Rights
Supporting the dignity, safety and rights of people affected by displacement, conflict, discrimination and disadvantage.

Fair and Inclusive Communities
Promoting inclusion, addressing racism and discrimination, and supporting greater participation across diverse communities.

Sustainable Development
Supporting initiatives that create long-term social and economic opportunities, particularly for communities affected by conflict and instability.

Transparency and Accountability
Maintaining responsible governance, financial accountability and integrity in the way our programs and partnerships are delivered.

Commitment to Transparency and Progress

Participation in the UN Global Compact also carries an ongoing responsibility.

In our Letter of Commitment, Malak Foundation recognised the requirement to submit a Communication on Engagement (COE) outlining our efforts to support the Ten Principles and engage with the Global Compact.

We have committed to reporting on our progress within two years of joining and every two years thereafter in accordance with the UN Global Compact’s COE policy.

This commitment to reporting is consistent with our belief that meaningful social impact must be accompanied by transparency, measurable progress and accountability to the communities and stakeholders we serve.

Building Stronger Partnerships

Joining the UN Global Compact also strengthens Malak Foundation’s ability to engage with organisations that share similar values across government, academia, civil society, business and the international development sector.

Many of the challenges facing communities today — including displacement, racism, humanitarian crises, economic inequality and climate-related pressures — cannot be addressed by one organisation acting alone.

Effective and sustainable outcomes depend on collaboration.

Through our participation, Malak Foundation will continue seeking partnerships that bring together community knowledge, institutional expertise and international cooperation to create practical and lasting outcomes.

Looking Ahead

Since its establishment, Malak Foundation Incorporated has focused on supporting people and communities through practical humanitarian action, advocacy, community programs and partnerships.

Becoming a participant of the United Nations Global Compact provides another important foundation for that work.

We see this milestone not as an endpoint, but as a responsibility to continue improving, learning, collaborating and ensuring that our activities reflect the principles we have formally committed to uphold.
