One of the Darkest Days in Modern Australian History

Malak Foundation Statement

14 December will be remembered as one of the darkest days in modern Australian history.

What should have been an ordinary day, defined by community, movement, and everyday life, was shattered by a senseless act of violence that claimed innocent lives and traumatised the nation. A place of safety was transformed into a scene of fear, loss, and profound grief.

Our deepest condolences are with the victims, their families, and loved ones. We also acknowledge the courage of first responders, healthcare workers, and members of the public who acted with humanity under extraordinary circumstances.

While early information suggests the attackers have targeted a Jewish community event, the violence was indiscriminate. People were harmed regardless of background, belief, or identity. This underscores a fundamental truth: violence does not discriminate, and in Australia, violence has no place. Period.

Malak Foundation stands in solidarity with the Jewish community in Australia, and with all communities affected by fear and trauma. No community should ever feel unsafe simply going about their daily lives. An attack on one part of our social fabric is an attack on us all.

At times like this, leadership and restraint matter. It is essential that authorities are allowed to conduct their investigations without speculation or misinformation. Premature narratives only deepen harm and division, especially on social media platforms.

Australia will be judged not by this act of violence, but by how we respond to it. Our strength lies in unity, empathy, and a collective commitment to the safety and dignity of every person.

As we grieve, we must also reaffirm the values that define us: compassion, responsibility, and an unwavering rejection of violence in all its forms.

If you or someone you know has been affected, please seek support. Healing begins with connection, and with standing together.
